  22. ISSUE/PROBLEM
  23. If the AutoCAD swap file is created on a SuperStor compressed
  24. partition, it is given maximum compression ratio of 16:1.  When
  25. AutoCAD then creates other working files on the compressed
  26. partition, they prevent the swap file from expanding as necessary,
  27. resulting in an error from the Virtual Memory Manager (VMM).
  28.  
  29. SOLUTION
  30. Create the AutoCAD swap file on an uncompressed partition.  Users
  31. ought to refer to their AutoCAD documentation for instructions on
  32. this.  Here are the steps that we have found to work: 
  33.  
  34. 1) Execute a configuration program called CFIG386.EXE.  The
  35. necessary command is: CFIG386 ACAD.EXE -SWAPDEFDISK x:  (where x:
  36. is the drive designation of the uncompressed partition).
  37.  
  38. 2) It is also possible to designate a directory in which the file 
  39. should reside by entering:  CFIG386 ACAD.EXE -SWAPDIR x:\temp 
  40. (where x:\temp is the drive and directory on the uncompressed
  41. partition).
  42.  
  43. There needs to be about 5 Megabytes of free disk space on the
  44. uncompressed partition before CFIG386 can make these changes.  If
  45. this is not the case, it will be necessary to backup the data on
  46. the compressed partition, remove the compressed partition, and
  47. recreate it, leaving the uncompressed partition about 5 MB larger
  48. than it currently is.
  49.  
  50. Other configuration tips regarding AutoCAD 11 are as follows:
  51. (1) set FILES=100 
  52. (2) set FCBS=48,8 
  53. (3) set BREAK=OFF.
  54. These changes are to the CONFIG.SYS file.
